Microsoft has launched a new tool to help users resolve errors that usually crop up during the Windows update process. The troubleshooting tool supports Windows versions 10, 8.1 and 7.
Listed on Microsoft's Support site as "Fix Windows Update errors", it addresses error codes such as 0x80073712, 0x800705B4, 0x80004005, 0x8024402F, 0x80070002, 0x80070643, 0x80070003, 0x8024200B, 0x80070422 and 0x80070020. These are commonly seen errors that appear when installing Windows update.

Check out the following troubleshooting steps according to your Windows version fix the problem and get started with the update again.

For Windows 10:

Download Windows Update Troubleshooter then select Open or Save in the pop-up Window
Select Next and then follow the on-screen steps to find and fix problems with the Windows Update
For Windows 8.1:
Press Windows key, type Network problems and then select Identify and repair network problems
Follow the steps in the wizard to resolve the network problems
At the end run Windows Update
For Windows 7:
Right-click the network icon in the notification area then select Troubleshoot problems
Follow the steps in the wizard to resolve the network problems
Try installing Windows Update once again.
